Social networking sites are used by many people worldwide. They can be accessed by anyone so therefore we must protect our privacy as best as we can. There are several things that I do to protect my privacy; ranging from my name to my posts. The first thing I keep in mind when creating an account is; do not use my real last name and birthday. For all social networking sites, I would never put my real birthday because I don’t feel that it is necessary. I understand how many people would think, “My friends won’t be able to find me if I don’t put my real last name,” but that shouldn’t be a problem. If they are someone you know and trust, you should be able to go to them in person and tell them what your account name is. Another thing that I keep in mind is to change my settings and privacy and make sure that not just anyone can view my information. On Facebook for example, I change my settings so that only friends of friends can search for me and only friends can see my information. I think that the biggest thing to keep in mind is to not accept friend requests from someone whom you’re not sure you know. They could end up being a cyber stalker who may end up taking your photos and personal information for the wrong reasons. There are cyber stalkers out there and that’s why we must protect our information from uninvited eyes and advertisers. If someone you don’t know gets access of your information and photos, you don’t know what they would do with it. They may end up using it for other purposes and you would end up being caught in a serious problem.
Social networking sites are fun and a great way for you and friends to connect but you must be aware of all the dangers out there and how to protect yourself from them.
Hi vivienne! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your layout ... it's very pink . hehe .
I agree with your blog post, we have to protect our information from cyber stalkers !
Very detailed blog post, Vivienne!
ReplyDeleteYou take many steps to protect yourself, good job!
I believe everyone should also follow those steps.
& Great photo! You have great photoshop skills!
Nice photo screen shot there. I totally didn't think of anything like that, very clever! As for your post, I never would have though to not put in my real last name, but I suppose you are right about friends being able to find you on the net. I also agree with not accepting a friend request if you don't know the person well, I think that's just risky and dumb. Good response to the first entry, can't wait to see your other posts.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your response concerning the protection of personal information on social networking sites, Vivienne.
ReplyDeleteI also question myself whether or not I really need to use my real last name and birthday when creating an account.
Also, I agree with your point of changing privacy settings. We should all customize these settings!
Well, great post! Keep on posting more. (:
Hi ! :D
ReplyDeleteYou have great ways in which people can use to protect themselves from strangers and stalkers. I think that many of us should change our privacy settings so we will be safe when using these social network sites. I think that people should also change their privacy settings to become unsearchable to other people who aren't their friends.
Good Job!
Hey ! (:
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post, I totally agree with the birthday and name advice. No one should need to worry about others not knowing who they are, if they're trustworthy enough to know your personal information, they wouldn't need you to post it online.
Good post, you should keep adding more responses ! (y)
You gave some great advice, Vivienne! I never really thought much about not putting your real last name and birthday, but your reasoning is true. If they were to really know you and you to really know them, your (sort of) fake identity shouldn't be a problem. Cyber stalkers are so scary!
